Young Footballers Shine at Launceston Festival Day

Pupils take to the pitch

Children from Years 3 and 4 at Egloskerry Primary School and Altarnun Primary School enjoyed an action-packed football festival held at Launceston College this month.

Both schools, part of Athena Learning Trust, saw their pupils take part in a day filled with football, where enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship were on full display from start to finish. Teachers and organisers were impressed by the effort shown across the event.

Every child gave their best on the pitch, with strong encouragement shared between teammates throughout the day. The festival gave pupils the chance to develop their skills, take part in friendly competition, and enjoy sport together.

Supporting skills beyond the classroom

The event ties in with the schools’ PE curriculum, which focuses on physical literacy, health and wellbeing. Pupils take part in a range of activities including multiskills, sports, dance and outdoor adventures.

Through this, they build fundamental movement skills, endurance, teamwork, sportsmanship, social skills and resilience, while developing positive attitudes towards fitness. Inclusivity remains a key focus, ensuring all pupils can take part and feel supported.

Praise from school leadership

The schools thanked Launceston College for hosting the event and providing pupils with the opportunity to engage in sport.

Lynsey Slater, Executive Principal at Altarnun Primary School and Principal at Egloskerry Primary School, said:
