Free Debt Help Now Available Inside Launceston Foodbank

Struggling with money is isolating enough without having to traipse across town for help. Now, anyone walking into Launceston Foodbank can sort food and finances in the same visit.

Community Money Advice Launceston has been running fortnightly appointment sessions at the foodbank, held every other Wednesday, offering one-to-one support with budgeting, getting out of debt and applying for benefits.

A long-standing local partnership

Community Money Advice Launceston has been operating in the town since 2012, working alongside other organisations including Launceston Foodbank to support people during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. The charity is run by a small team of volunteers and offers help across several areas, including guidance on spending less and saving more through better budgeting.

The sessions inside the foodbank are an extension of the services already running from CMA’s offices at Sheers Barton.

What organisers say

Community Money Advice Launceston Centre Manager Sarah Vinson said the sessions exist to reach people who may not yet know free support is on offer.

“These sessions are aimed to help and support those who may not yet know of the free support and services we can offer for those struggling with their finances. We have worked closely with Launceston Foodbank for many years, and this is just one of the ways we can work in collaboration to support those in need.”

Launceston Foodbank Manager Yvonne King described the partnership as an example of the town’s collaborative approach.

“The valuable contribution CMAL offers to assist the foodbank in supporting those in crisis is a great example of our towns supportive collaborative working. Offering help with food parcels and advice in one venue keeps stress at a minimum for clients. The foodbank’s working partnership with CMAL is extremely important in our strive to alleviate financial poverty.”

The fortnightly sessions continue through the summer months. Appointments can be made by contacting Community Money Advice Launceston directly, or by speaking to the team at the foodbank.
