Launceston Students Rally to Fill Food Bank Shelves

Students at Launceston College have come together to support their local community by collecting food donations for the town foodbank.

The school, which is part of Athena Learning Trust, organised a collection led by its student leadership team, encouraging students and staff to bring in non-perishable food items.

School community joins the effort

Donations included tinned goods, pasta, rice, cereals, UHT milk, juice, biscuits and snacks.

Collections took place during school breaks, and students added a competitive edge by seeing which year group could contribute the most.

According to the school, the Year 11 House Captains said they were “blown away” by the generosity shown by students and their families as donations continued to arrive for the town foodbank.

The collection takes place each year and forms part of the school’s focus on kindness, responsibility and supporting the wider community.

Matthew Thompson, Principal at Launceston College, said:

“It’s been wonderful to see students getting involved and helping others in the community. The enthusiasm and care they’ve shown really bring our values of kindness and responsibility to life.”

Ofsted rating and inspection feedback

Launceston College is rated Good by Ofsted for Quality of education, Behaviour and attitudes, Personal development, Leadership and management and Sixth form provision.

Inspectors noted that all pupils, including those with SEND, follow a broad and ambitious curriculum and learn new knowledge in a logical order.

The report also highlighted that students in the sixth form study for qualifications that are well matched to their future aspirations and complete work that is suitably demanding.

For pupils attending the specially resourced provision, inspectors found the curriculum is designed to meet their needs and capabilities.
