Launceston College takes on Return to the Forbidden Planet

The last handful of seats are going for a show that throws Shakespeare, spaceships and 1950s rock ‘n’ roll into the same story. Once this week is over, that is it.

Four nights on stage

Students at Launceston College are staging Return to the Forbidden Planet, the Olivier Award-winning musical that mixes the Bard with sci-fi and a run of classic rock hits. Performers have been rehearsing hard to bring the production to life, and audiences of all ages are invited along for what the school is billing as high-energy entertainment.

The show runs for four nights at 7.30pm on Wednesday 8th, Thursday 9th, Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July.

The soundtrack leans on tracks plenty of people will recognise the moment they start. Great Balls of Fire, Good Vibrations, Teenager in Love and Monster Mash all feature, wrapped around a plot the college promises is packed with comedy, drama and spectacle.

What it costs and how to book

Tickets are £12.50 for adults and £10 for children and concessions. With only a limited number of seats left, the school is telling people to book soon rather than risk missing out. Seats are available through the Launceston College booking page on TicketSource.

Refreshments will be on sale during the interval, with the money raised going to the college’s Performing Arts department.

Matthew Thompson, Principal at Launceston College, said the students had thrown themselves into it.

“Our students have shown incredible commitment, talent and enthusiasm throughout rehearsals, and we are so excited to finally share the production with the community. Whether you’re a fan of musical theatre, classic rock ‘n’ roll or simply looking for a fantastic night out, this show has something for everyone.”
