Launceston Minor Injury Unit to Reopen Seven Days a Week from 4th April

Launceston’s minor injury unit is set to return to a seven day service from Saturday 4th April 2026, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed.

The move comes eight months after opening hours were reduced to help ensure patient and staff safety. The Trust says it has now delivered on its commitment to restore the unit’s core hours.

Services Returning Alongside the Unit

Alongside the reopening, x-ray services will be available from Sunday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. X-ray will remain closed on Saturdays and bank holidays.

Hospital matron Nicola Wilks said:
“I am delighted to be able to open the minor injury unit 7 days a week: and just in time for Easter too!

“Catherine Bailey, minor injury unit sister and team have worked hard to get our 7-day service returned with recruitment and staff development. Well done to our minor injury unit team!”

Positive Response From Local Leaders

Cornwall councillor Damon Dennis welcomed the news, highlighting the importance of accessible healthcare in the area.

“I am very pleased to see the minor injury unit fully reopened at Launceston Community Hospital. This is extremely positive news for residents and for the many people who rely on accessible healthcare services in the town and surrounding rural communities.

“This news clearly demonstrates how committed the Trust is to provide a high-quality and resilient service for the people of Launceston. This is a welcome development for our community, and I would like to thank everyone involved in working to restore the full service.”

Wider Minor Injury Unit Updates

The Trust has also confirmed that, following additional recruitment and training, opening hours at Newquay Minor Injury Unit were extended to six days a week, from Thursdays to Tuesdays, in February. These hours are aligned with when the unit is busiest.

Helston Minor Injury Unit continues to operate six days a week.

All other minor injury units across Cornwall are open seven days a week. The Trust says opening hours remain under constant review to ensure services can safely treat as many people as possible.

Ongoing Work to Support Local Healthcare

Since last summer, the Trust has been working with local providers to explore how resources across Launceston and the surrounding area can best support residents.

This work is continuing through the development of local neighbourhood health, as outlined in the NHS 10-year Health Plan.

Residents are reminded that a range of local services are available for minor illnesses and injuries, including three pharmacies, two opticians, the GP practice and a health hub. People can also use NHS 111’s symptom checker or call 111 for advice and support.
