Eighteen cows take an unplanned wander through Liskeard

A Liskeard police officer clocked on for her shift on Thursday morning and found the day’s first job already standing in the road. Eighteen of them, in fact.

The great Liskeard cow escape

PC Hall was on duty on 3 July when 18 cows made their way out of a field and onto the streets of Liskeard. Members of the public stepped in before things went any further, herding the animals into the courtyard of a nearby property and keeping them there until help could arrive.

Every one safely home

The farmer turned up soon after and each cow was rounded up and returned home. Police confirmed there were no injuries, either to the animals or to anyone else caught up in the morning’s excitement.

A word on gates

Liskeard Police used the moment to pass on a simple bit of countryside courtesy. If you open a gate to get into a field, close it behind you and secure it in the same way you found it. It keeps farm animals where they belong and off the road.
