Five years behind bars

Jason Taylor, 38, of Pengover Road in Liskeard, appeared at Truro Crown Court for sentence on Tuesday 30 June. He had pleaded guilty to multiple offences of possession of indecent images of children, distributing indecent images of children, arranging and facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, and causing and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He was jailed for five years and made the subject of a ten year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

How the investigation unfolded

On 20 April 2026, Devon & Cornwall Police received a referral stating that Jason had been actively engaging with an undercover online operative. During the conversation he shared his sexual attraction to children.

The operative told Jason they had access to a nine-year-old niece. Believing this to be true, Jason shared his sexual intentions for the child, who did not exist. He told the operative he was willing to drive to Kent during the school holidays to carry out the abuse himself.

Jason then sent child abuse images to the operative. It was agreed that a video call would take place before any meeting, with live abuse to happen during the call.

Arrested in bed

Jason joined the call at the agreed time with the majority of his face covered. It was agreed that the girl would call back once her connection was sorted.

She never did. Minutes later, officers from the Devon & Cornwall Police Paedophile Online Investigation Team entered the property and arrested Jason in bed in his underwear. The room he was arrested in matched the one seen during the video call.

What the police said

The case was a joint investigation between the force’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT) and the Eastern Region Specialist Operations Unit (ERSOU).

Police Constable Dean Martin of POLIT said: “We welcome the sentence given to Jason Taylor today.

“Bringing offenders of child sexual abuse to justice remains our utmost priority. Whilst on this occasion, Taylor was speaking to an undercover officer, should it have been a real person with a real sexual interest in children, somewhere in the world a real child would have been sexually abused for his own sick gratification.

“For those engaging or attempting to engage in this type of behaviour or possess child sexual abuse material, the warning is simple. You will be caught. You will be brought to justice. We will do everything we can to protect the public and the most vulnerable in our society from harm.”
