Walking cricket festival in Liskeard has 24 places to fill
No running. A soft ball. A team of six to eight, some of whom may never have picked up a bat before.
That is walking cricket, and a festival dedicated to it is heading to Liskeard this month.

What’s happening and when
Anyone interested in walking cricket is being invited to take part in a Walking Cricket Festival at Liskeard Leisure Centre on Thursday 19 November, from 10am to midday.
GLL, the charitable social enterprise that runs the leisure centre, is holding the festival in partnership with Cornwall Cricket. There are 24 spaces available.
What is walking cricket?
It is a low impact version of the game designed for older adults and people with reduced mobility.
Running is not allowed. A softball is used for bowling, and teams usually have between six and eight players.
All levels of experience are welcome, from complete beginners to people returning to conventional cricket.
It started with a try-out in Bodmin
Walking cricket was part of the Better Cornwall Club Games at Bodmin Leisure Centre at the end of September.
“A lot of people were trying it out for the first time and the feedback we got was very positive,” said Karen Edmond, GLL Community Sport Manager.
“The festival offers a further opportunity to find out about the sport and have a go, whilst also being social and giving participants the chance to make new friends.”

How to book a place
To book a place at the festival and complete a registration form, email [email protected] or [email protected].
For anyone who gets the bug, it doesn’t stop there. Karen added: “We now hold regular weekly walking cricket sessions at Liskeard on Thursday from 9am to 10am.”
