Birdwatchers Spot 24 Species at Mevagissey Harbour

A group of eight nature and wildlife enthusiasts enjoyed a birdwatching trip to Mevagissey Harbour recently, spotting 24 species of birds despite battling the kind of unpredictable Cornish weather that can switch from glorious sunshine to heavy rain within minutes.

The fieldtrip was organised by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, Founder and Chair of Connect with Nature, RSPB Kernow Group Leader and Publicity Officer of Cornwall Birds. Rob Nicholls led the group out in the field on the day.

24 Species Despite the Showers

The unsettled conditions did little to dampen the group’s enthusiasm, with 24 species recorded over the course of the visit. Mevagissey Harbour is well regarded as a spot for coastal and harbour birdwatching, and the outing appears to have done nothing to change that reputation.

A Fitting End to the Day

No trip to Mevagissey would be complete without sampling some of the local food, and this group was no exception. On the walk back to the car park, the birdwatchers made a series of stops, picking up Kelly’s ice cream, freshly cooked doughnuts and fish and chips along the way. By the time they reached the car park, the group were, by all accounts, well and truly stuffed.

The trip was organised by Connect with Nature, a group dedicated to bringing people closer to the natural world.
