Trapped by the Tide: Lifeboat Rushes to Rescue Teens Near Mousehole

Stranded on Rocks Near Mousehole Cave

Two teenage boys were rescued by Penlee Lifeboat on the evening of Thursday 29th May after being cut off by the rising tide west of Mousehole Cave.

The call came in at 6.20pm, when Falmouth Coastguard requested the launch of Penlee’s All Weather Lifeboat ‘Ivan Ellen’. The boys were stuck in a location that couldn’t be reached by land due to the high tide.

Fast Response in Rough Conditions

Coxswain Patch Harvey and six crew members launched from Newlyn and reached the scene within five minutes. A fresh south-westerly wind and choppy sea made conditions challenging, but the boys were quickly located.

The Y-boat was launched and both teenagers were recovered from the rocks and brought safely aboard the lifeboat.

Safe Return to Mousehole Harbour

After being assessed on board, the boys were found to be cold but in good health. The crew brought them into Mousehole Harbour, where they were reunited with their families.

The Ivan Ellen then returned to Newlyn and was made ready for its next service.
