The Mullion Extravaganza Is Back for a Weekend This July

A silent disco, a ceilidh and an auction hosted by the ever-popular Dicky Mint. The Mullion Extravaganza is back for a weekend at the end of July, and the committee behind it says excitement is building with only weeks left to prepare.

The two-day event takes place on 25 and 26 July at St Mellan’s Park and is billed as one of the Lizard Peninsula’s most anticipated summer events. Organisers are asking residents and visitors to save the date for a weekend of live music, dancing, family entertainment and traditional village-fete fun.

Saturday starts with a silent disco

The festivities begin on Saturday 25 July with an afternoon silent disco running from 12.45pm until 4.30pm in the marquee at St Mellan’s Park. Headsets cost £5 each and are open to anyone aged five and over, covering three silent disco sessions.

Alongside the disco there will be arts and crafts, table games, puzzles, soft archery and water games. A licensed bar will be open, with Victorian Mobile Catering and Crepe Therapy also on site.

The afternoon rolls into an evening ceilidh with live music from The Rosevilles. A caller will guide everyone through the dances, so first-timers can join in without knowing the steps. The bar stays open, and hot food and refreshments will be served throughout the evening.

Sunday’s village fete

The church bells ring at 11.50am on Sunday 26 July, and the village fete opens at noon with entertainment running through the afternoon.

Attractions include children’s rides, inflatables, a bouncy castle, traditional fete games, face painting, stalls, refreshments, ice cream, mini pitch and putt, tombolas, a BBQ, cakes, and tea and coffee. The Coastguard and Fire Service will also be making an appearance.

On the entertainment side there are performances from Breage Silver Band, Everest, Stacey Lee and the Mullion Hand Bell Ringers, plus children’s races, field games, a raffle and the ever-popular auction hosted by Dicky Mint.

Where the money goes

The Extravaganza is a community fundraiser as well as a celebration of village life. Money raised over the years has gone to a range of local charities, organisations and community projects across the area. This year the Mullion and Lizard Scouts will be among the beneficiaries.

Chairman of the Mullion Extravaganza Committee and lifelong Mullion resident Robin Olliff said: “With just a few weeks to go, excitement is really building. A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes to bring the Extravaganza together and we’re incredibly grateful to all the volunteers, sponsors, performers and local businesses who help make it possible.

“Whether you’re a regular visitor or attending for the first time, there really is something for everyone over the weekend. Every ticket purchased, every raffle ticket bought and every pound spent helps us continue supporting local organisations and community projects, including the Mullion and Lizard Scouts, who will be among this year’s beneficiaries. We look forward to welcoming everyone to St Mellan’s Park for what promises to be a fantastic weekend.”

Parking and dogs

Parking is available at Atlantic Forge at £3 for disabled and short-stay parking, and at Tremenhee for long-stay parking by donation.

Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a short lead, and owners are asked to clean up after them.
