Cornish Band The Ultra Violets Sign with CMS Music Media

A Cornish band has been told they do not need to move away from home to “make it” after being signed by one of the UK’s biggest music companies.

The Ultra Violets, who have been together since 2021 and have long been part of the local music scene, say their breakthrough came at the tail end of summer 2025 when they received an unexpected email from CMS Music Media.

Frontman Perran Nicholls said: “At the tail end of summer 2025 we had a email from CMS Music saying ‘you still looking for management’ I’ll be honest I blanked it for about a week, was only after a follow up email I decided to check it out because I thought it was spam, then boom I see all these huge acts like Oasis, Sam Fender, Blossoms, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys to name a few that work with CMS, my jaw immediately drops and I call the boys and say we’re on to something here. A few video calls later we met Ian Compton in person, the meeting was intense but not too intense, It was accompanied by lots of beer, the conversation was so inspiring after grafting for so many years to finally get someone believing in us meant so much.”

“You don’t need to leave Cornwall”

According to Perran, Ian Compton was clear from the outset that relocating was not part of the plan.

“He is very adamant we don’t need to leave Cornwall to ‘make it’ Cornwall is our selling point he explained, we’re all very proud Cornish lads and he wants us to be the band that proper makes it from Cornwall, Cornwall‘s got a bit of stigma of bands not really ever breaking through, although some arguably have like The Black Tambourines, Thirteen Senses (only Cornish band to have a top 20 single) and Haven to name a few but they all probably left Cornwall at some point and yes that might be the case for us in the long run but for now Cornwall is the place we need to be it’s our home and gone are the days of moving to a city to make it happen, you can make it happen anywhere.”

Ian, who is CEO of CMS Music Media, reportedly told the band there were “just too many ticked boxes not to manage them… looked good, sounded good and was from Cornwall,” while also reminding them that the hard work starts now.

A New Sound and Big Names Behind It

Following the agreement, the next step was to almost scrap everything they had previously done.

Ian wanted a more guitar driven sound, which saw the band head to Oxford to work with producer Rod Da Rosa, who has worked with The Rolling Stones. Vocals were later recorded back in Cornwall with John Cornfield, whose credits include Oasis, Supergrass, Razorlight and Muse.

Perran said: “the questions I had was endless and we hardly got any vocals done (to the managers dislike) because we were just talking so much about rock n roll history.”

The EP is currently being mixed by Rod and mastered by George Shilling, who has worked with bands such as Primal Scream. The release is almost wrapped and due out soon.

Live at Morvala Festival

Fans will be able to catch The Ultra Violets live at Cornwall’s newest festival, Morvala, in June.
