50p Charge to Be Introduced at Porth Toilets

Installation work has begun today, Tuesday 10th March 2026, to introduce a 50p charge at the public toilets at Porth in Newquay.

Newquay Town Council says the change reflects the standard charge already in place across the majority of public conveniences in the town.

The installation of the new payment system started on Tuesday 10th March 2026.

The council anticipates that the toilets will remain open while the work is carried out. However, it has said this could change if any unforeseen issues arise during the installation period.

How Payments Will Work

Once the system is installed, users will be able to pay the 50p charge using a contactless payment system.

For the accessible toilet, a combined contactless and coin payment unit will be available.

Why the Charge Is Being Introduced

According to Newquay Town Council, the decision comes in response to increasing maintenance costs across the town’s public conveniences.

The council says these costs have risen largely due to misuse and vandalism. Introducing the charge is also intended to help deter inappropriate behaviour and support efforts to maintain safe, clean and well managed facilities for users.
