Cornwall Hotel Collection Acquires The Atlantic Hotel in Newquay

The Cornwall Hotel Collection has announced the acquisition of The Atlantic Hotel in Newquay, marking a significant step in the growth of the Cornish-owned hospitality group.

The landmark hotel now joins the group’s existing portfolio, which includes The Falmouth and The Greenbank in Falmouth, along with The Alverton in Truro. The move strengthens the collection’s presence across Cornwall and reflects its continued focus on historic hotels rooted in their local communities.

A Landmark With Deep Roots

Overlooking Towan Beach and the Atlantic Ocean, The Atlantic Hotel has been part of Newquay’s landscape since opening in 1892. Built during the Victorian railway boom, the hotel quickly became known as one of Cornwall’s most prestigious coastal retreats.

Its elevated position, sea views and distinctive Victorian design have made it a recognisable feature of the north coast for generations.

Newquay itself remains one of Cornwall’s most well-known seaside towns, recognised for its beaches, surf culture and busy community life. The hotel’s setting reflects that character, with its position capturing views of the coastline and surrounding area.

Plans For Careful Restoration

The acquisition follows ongoing refurbishment work at The Falmouth, where the group is restoring the Victorian seafront hotel while maintaining its historic features.

Similar plans are in place for The Atlantic Hotel. A phased restoration programme is expected, with a focus on protecting the building’s character while improving the experience for guests over time.

The Cornwall Hotel Collection says the aim is to ensure the hotel remains a long-term part of Cornwall’s hospitality offering, while continuing to support local employment and connections within the community.

The Atlantic Hotel will continue to operate as normal during the transition, with any changes introduced gradually.

With four hotels now spanning both the north and south coasts, The Cornwall Hotel Collection says it will continue focusing on heritage, character and a strong sense of place across its portfolio.
