UPDATE: Deadly Plant Warning as Hemlock Roots Wash Up on Fistral
Cornwall Council has posted this morning on social media and issued an urgent update following reports of dogs falling ill in the Fistral and Little Fistral areas.
The council has confirmed that hemlock roots – which resemble and smell like parsnips but are highly toxic to animals—have been found washed up on local beaches. These roots are often carried downstream from riverbanks during the winter and can pose a serious risk to dogs.

As a precaution, Cornwall Council is putting up signs in the area to warn dog owners. Pet owners are urged to keep dogs on a lead and remain vigilant while walking on the affected beaches.
