Sun, a stiff breeze and 17 pairs of hands. That was the combination at Fistral on Saturday morning, and by the end of it the beach was a good deal cleaner than it started.

What the volunteers found

The 17 volunteers who turned out for the latest Fistral Beach Clean filled four big bags of litter across the beach and dunes.

The main beach area gave up plenty of cigarette butts and wet wipes. Down on the strand line, volunteers sieved out microplastics, the small fragments that are easy to walk past and hard to shift once they work into the sand. The dunes produced the usual haul of bottles, cans and barbecue remnants.

Thanks all round

The group thanked the 17 volunteers for a great job, and Boardmasters Beach Bar for looking after them as always.
