Giant zombie puppets are taking shape at Newquay Library

Somewhere in Newquay there are now buckets of glue, bendy cane frames and a few half-built monsters waiting for their finishing touches.

They were started last Saturday (3 October), when families filled tables at Newquay Library for the first of two free Monster Making Workshops. The second is this Saturday (10 October).

Newquay BID said the first session “was a hit”, with families making “some wonderfully spooky monsters ready for this year’s Zombie Crawl”.

What the workshops are for

The sessions have a job to do. According to the poster for the workshops, people are being invited to “help make GIANT ZOMBIE puppets for Newquay’s Zombie Crawl”.

There is also “crafty help to make everything you need” for what the poster calls “Newquay’s biggest annual community parade”.

Photos from the first workshop show children up to their elbows in a tub of paste, smoothing sheets of tissue paper flat on the table, and cane frames taped together into the beginnings of something large. It is one of several things happening in Newquay in the run up to the crawl.

How to join the second workshop

If you missed the first one, the second session runs like this:

• When: this Saturday (10 October), 1pm to 3pm
• Where: Newquay Library
• Cost: free

“Come along, get creative and make your very own monster,” Newquay BID said.

Who is behind it

The poster carries the logos of Newquay Business Improvement District, Love Newquay, Cornwall Council, Arts Council England, FEAST, Creative Kernow and Hotch Potch, among others.

Newquay BID has asked people to share the details and spread the word. “We’d love to see you there,” it said.
