Mount Wise, Newquay: the new play area still isn’t open
Walk past Mount Wise in Newquay right now and there is a good chance you will see it, a brand new play tower and slide, finished and waiting, behind a fence that people keep climbing over anyway. It has been happening often enough that Newquay Town Council has felt the need to put out a public warning.

Why the fence is up
The council says it is aware that people are gaining unauthorised access to the new Newquay play area by climbing the perimeter fencing around the site. The equipment might look finished, but the play area has not yet been tested, inspected or certified as safe for use. The site remains closed, and the council is clear that it is not safe to access the area or use the equipment in its current state.
What you risk by going in
Anyone who climbs in is putting themselves at risk of injury on equipment that has not passed a safety check. The council also points out that unauthorised use can damage the equipment itself before the play area has even had the chance to officially open.
What to do if you see it happening
If you know who has been getting into the site, the council is asking people to encourage them not to. And if you witness someone climbing the fencing or accessing the play area, the advice is to report it to Devon & Cornwall Police and notify the council, giving descriptions where possible.
The fencing is there for public safety while the final checks are carried out. The council has thanked residents for their cooperation in helping keep the site secure until it is ready to open, though no date for that has been announced yet.
