Newquay Marine Group Hosts Insightful Talk on Marine Life Rescue Efforts
In an effort to raise awareness about marine conservation and the vital rescue work being done along the coast, Newquay Marine Group has organised an enlightening talk scheduled for this Wednesday at Newquay University Centre, Cornwall College, located just behind the zoo. Starting at 7pm, with guests welcomed from 6:30pm, the event promises to offer a deep dive into the crucial efforts of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) in Cornwall, with no prior booking required.
Dan Jarvis, Area Coordinator for BDMLR in Cornwall, will lead the talk, sharing his extensive experience and the organisation’s impactful work. Attendees will gain insights into the BDMLR’s efforts to assist marine animals in distress, learning about the challenges faced during live rescues, the reasons some animals can’t be saved, and the importance of the group’s work in the broader context of national marine conservation efforts.
The session will also cover the critical role of trained volunteer medics who respond to emergencies, carrying out health assessments, providing first aid, and executing rescue measures under often challenging conditions. Additionally, Jarvis will discuss how the trends in callouts have evolved over the years, highlighting the current issues affecting marine life and the importance of ongoing conservation efforts.
The event is open to everyone, with free entry for members of the Newquay Marine Group, and a nominal fee for non-members (£3) and students (£2). Attendees can look forward to a cosy atmosphere complete with tea, coffee, and biscuits, making for a perfect setting to learn about the BDMLR’s commendable work and how it fits into the larger picture of marine conservation.
This talk represents a unique opportunity for the community and anyone interested in marine life and conservation to come together, learn, and discuss how to support these essential efforts to safeguard our marine ecosystems for future generations.
