The call at Goose Rock

Newquay RNLI volunteers were paged at 6.59pm on Sunday 6 September and tasked with searching for a person who had reportedly been swimming out towards Goose Rock and had not been seen for around two hours.

Two lifeboats, one search

Both of the station’s lifeboats were launched. The charity’s D Class went out first, followed by the Atlantic 85 B Class lifeboat.

Found and brought ashore

The casualty was located on Goose Rock and welcomed the offer of assistance. They were taken safely back to Crantock Beach, just along the coast from Newquay.

Both lifeboats were washed down, refuelled and ready for service again by 8.30pm, less than an hour and a half after the pagers first went off.

Newquay RNLI’s message afterwards was a simple one: when you’re enjoying the sea, tell someone where you’re going and when you hope to be back.
