A gathering on the Killacourt

The statue is being put in place on the Killacourt, looking out over Towan Beach. Newquay BID and Newquay Town Council are inviting people to gather there this Thursday at 2:30pm. There will be a few photos and a chance to celebrate the piece finally being in position.

The official handover

The Keough Foundation and Newquay Town Council are officially welcoming the statue to the town. Cherrilyn Keough will gift it to the town Mayor, with the handover then passing to Newquay Town Council. Anton Paul will act as MC on the day, running through the handover and talking through the statue’s place in Newquay and its history. The Keough Foundation funded the piece.

Sixty years of surfing

The day marks over 60 years of Newquay being the home of surfing in the UK. From this point the statue will be known as the Surfer of the South, and it will be accompanied by a new website and more.
