Shy FX Sells Out Lusty Glaze in Newquay’s Standout Summer

Barefoot on the sand, hundreds of people watched the sun drop into the Atlantic while one of British dance music’s most recognisable names worked the decks behind them. It is not a bad way to spend a Friday in July.

Drum and bass pioneer Shy FX played a sold-out Sundowner Sessions event at Lusty Glaze Beach in Newquay on Friday 10th July, the latest in a run of nights that has put the cove firmly in the national conversation this summer.

A sold-out night on the sand

Known for era-defining tracks including Original Nuttah, Shake Ur Body and Roll the Dice, Shy FX brought his bass-heavy sound to the secluded beach alongside MC Rage, Aldo Vanucci, DJ Proof and Konquerin Soundz.

The crowd descended the cliffside steps into the cove and stayed until the end, dancing as the light went out over the water.

Vernon Kay’s “fever dream”

The gig comes just weeks after BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay described the venue as “some kind of fever dream” following his own performance there, adding that there was “no way I’m in the UK”.

Those comments drew national attention and fed into a wider sense that Cornwall is being taken seriously as a destination for live events.

Andy Millson, Head of Operations at Lusty Glaze Beach, said, “This summer feels really special. There’s a genuine buzz around Cornwall at the moment and we’re incredibly proud to be part of it. People are discovering that you don’t have to fly abroad to experience something unforgettable.

Why the venue keeps landing big names

Lusty Glaze has built a reputation as one of Britain’s most distinctive live music venues, drawing internationally renowned artists to a private beach ringed by cliffs, with the sunset and the ocean doing most of the staging.

What’s coming next

More gigs are still to come before the season is out. Ibiza Club Classics lands on 25th July, followed by Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again on 26th July, with regular Sundowner Sessions running alongside them.
