Lappa Valley to bring back all the engines for a bumper gala weekend

Lappa Valley near St Newlyn East is preparing to mark a major moment in railway history with a full-scale gala event this weekend, 14th and 15th June, as part of the national Railway 200 celebrations.

Fresh off the back of its 50th birthday party last summer, the attraction is planning another unforgettable two-day celebration, with every available locomotive from its 15″ gauge railway set to run in a variety of rare and exciting combinations.

All engines go

The line-up includes double and triple-headed trains, parallel running, and top ’n’ tailed services. Elsewhere on site, the attraction’s two other railways will also be in action with visiting engines and special services.

Confirmed locomotives include:

  • Visiting 7.25″ steam locomotives Kilgarragh and Tazmin

  • Steam favourites Zebedee, Muffin and Ellie

  • Diesel engines City of Derby and City of Truro

  • 10.25″ diesels Eric and The Duke

  • Static displays of Arthur, Duke of Cornwall, Victoria, APT, HST and a range of miniature traction engines

“There’s nothing quite like it”

Ben Harding, Operations Director at Lappa Valley, said:
“Last June was truly memorable—three days of non-stop steam and diesel, culminating in emotional routines like Zebedee recreating our first ever train exactly 50 years on, and our longest train ever drawing rapturous applause.

“Now, with the Railway 200 celebration, the entire team is absolutely thrilled to bring back that same sense of wonder and celebration. Months of preparation are paying off, and we can’t wait to welcome guests to another extraordinary weekend.

“The parallel run racing trains are especially exciting—it’s a real crowd-pleaser seeing two or more engines charging down the line side by side. There’s nothing quite like it!”

The full timetable of the weekend’s services is available on the Lappa Valley website, where pre-booking is highly recommended. Standard admission prices apply.
