The Newquay roads closing for the Remembrance Sunday parade
If you’re driving through Newquay town centre on the morning of Sunday 8 November, you may end up waiting a few minutes while a parade goes by.
Rolling road closures will be in place for the annual Remembrance Sunday Parade, organised by the Royal British Legion. Veterans, Armed Forces personnel, emergency services representatives, dignitaries and community groups will march together to remember and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

When the parade sets off
Participants will gather at Fore Street Car Park at 9.45am and set off at 10am.
From there the parade makes its way through the town centre to St Michael’s Church, where it is expected to arrive at around 10.45am, ahead of the Remembrance Service. The route is shown on the map at the bottom of this page.
How the rolling road closure works
The rolling closure runs between 9.45am and 10.45am. Roads will only be shut as the parade passes through and will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
Most roads are expected to be affected for no longer than 15 minutes. Traffic management and the closures are being coordinated by Newquay Town Council.

What the traffic order covers
Cornwall Council has made a Temporary Prohibition of Vehicular Traffic Order for the parade. It bans vehicles, including bicycles, from 9.45am to 10.45am on:
- St Michaels Road, between the junction of Marcus Hill and St Michaels Church
- Marcus Hill, between the junctions of Bank Street and St Michaels Road
- Bank Street, for its entire length
- Central Square, for its entire length
- Fore Street, between the junctions of Alma Place and Central Square
While the order is in force, nobody may drive, cycle or wait on those roads unless directed to by a police constable in uniform.
It does not apply to police, fire, ambulance or coastguard vehicles, anyone on official duty, a vehicle being used by an undertaker in an emergency, or traffic linked to the event itself.
Planning a journey that morning
Motorists are being asked to allow extra time for journeys during the parade and to follow any directions from traffic management staff.
More information is available on the Newquay Town Council website or by calling the town council on 01637 878388.
The order was signed off by Vicky Fraser, Cornwall Council’s Service Director of Environment and Connectivity.
