Free NHS Apps for Asthma and COPD Available Now

People living with COPD or asthma in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly can now access free digital support designed to help them manage their condition from home.

The myCOPD and myAsthma apps are being offered at no cost to residents registered with a GP in Cornwall until the end of May 2026. Once downloaded, the apps remain free for life. The move supports the NHS 10 Year Plan commitment to expand digital tools that help people take control of their health.

What the apps offer

Developed by digital health company my mhealth, the apps provide a range of clinically proven tools to support day to day management of respiratory conditions. Features include:

• Personalised COPD self management support

• Personalised asthma action plans

• Inhaler technique videos

• Symptom and trigger tracking

• Guided home based pulmonary rehabilitation programmes

• Education created by NHS respiratory experts

• Tools to help improve asthma control

Support from NHS leaders

Chris Reid, chief medical officer at NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, said:

“Living with a long term respiratory condition can be challenging, but the right support can make a real difference to people and help them to take control of their health.

By offering free access to the myCOPD and myAsthma apps, we are giving people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly new tools and advice so they can feel more confident in managing their symptoms day to day. These clinically proven digital resources empower individuals to understand their condition, monitor changes, and take timely action, often from the comfort of home. We are pleased to make this support available and encourage anyone living with COPD or asthma to take up this opportunity and download the apps.”

These tools empower people to take control of their health while keeping them connected to trusted NHS guidance. We’re pleased to offer this free access until the end of March and encourage anyone living with COPD or asthma to register as soon as possible.”

Wider support across Cornwall

The digital support forms part of a wider package introduced over the winter to help people with respiratory conditions. NHS Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly is one of just 10 areas in England to receive funding through the NHS England Pathway Transformation Fund, which provided £2.61 million nationally to improve asthma and COPD care.

Additional support has included respiratory clinical champions, community engagement through voluntary and charity partners, targeted wellbeing support, tobacco dependency treatment, and expanded use of digital tools.
