NHS Cornwall Shares Spring Health Tips for Locals and Visitors
NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly is urging both residents and visitors to plan ahead this Easter, as the county prepares for a busy holiday period.
With more people expected to travel across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, health officials say simple steps could help people stay well while also easing pressure on local NHS services.
Dr Chris Reid, Chief Medical Officer for NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, said: “Easter is a wonderful time in Cornwall, but it can be very busy. By planning ahead, packing simple health essentials and knowing where to go for help, everyone can enjoy the holiday and support our local NHS. Thank you for helping Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly stay well this Easter.”

Pack the essentials before you travel
Visitors are being encouraged to bring a small ‘holiday health kit’ to avoid minor issues becoming bigger problems.
Suggested items include regular medication, pain relief, plasters, antiseptic wipes, sun cream, rehydration sachets and basic first aid supplies.
Those who rely on prescription medication are also advised to bring enough to last their trip, plus a few extra days in case of delays. GP surgeries and pharmacies may have reduced hours over the bank holiday, so ordering in advance using the NHS App is recommended.
If medication is forgotten, local pharmacies may be able to provide an emergency supply until GP surgeries reopen.
Be prepared for changing weather
Spring weather in Cornwall can be unpredictable, especially around Easter. NHS Cornwall advises people to pack layers, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear, particularly if planning coastal walks.
Even on cloudy days, UV levels can still be high. Wearing sun cream, hats and sunglasses is advised, especially for children.
Travel advice for busy roads
With increased traffic expected, drivers are being reminded to allow extra time for journeys.
Keeping water and snacks in the car, along with travel sickness remedies if needed, can help make journeys more comfortable and less stressful.

Know where to go for help
NHS Cornwall is also reminding people to choose the right service if they need medical support during their stay.
Your own GP remains the best option for non urgent issues, even while on holiday, and can arrange prescriptions at a local pharmacy if needed.
For advice at any time, the NHS 111 online service is available 24/7, or people can call 111.
Pharmacies can help treat a range of minor illnesses through the Pharmacy First service.
Minor injury units and urgent treatment centres are open daily for injuries that are not life threatening, and people are advised to check live opening times and waiting information before travelling, as the nearest service may not always be the quickest.
In emergencies, people should still use 999 or attend an emergency department.
Take time to rest and plan ahead
Alongside practical health advice, NHS Cornwall is encouraging people to look after their wellbeing during the holidays.
Suggestions include visiting quieter beaches, exploring local gardens, or heading out earlier in the day to avoid crowds.
Additional guidance is also available for those travelling to the Isles of Scilly, with dedicated health information provided by NHS Cornwall.
Residents are being encouraged to share this advice with friends and family who may be visiting over the Easter period.
