Want a Career in Healthcare? Hundreds Found Their Path at RCHT’s Discovery Day
The ‘Introduction to Careers’ event at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust (RCHT) on Saturday, 18th January, was met with an overwhelming response, drawing in more than 300 individuals eager to explore careers in health and care.
A One-Stop Shop for Careers Advice
The Discovery Day provided a unique opportunity for those considering a future in healthcare to meet professionals, engage in interactive discussions, and gain insights into different departments within the hospital. More than 100 volunteers from various health and care sectors served as career ambassadors, sharing their experiences and inspiring the next generation.
Kate Teagle, Work Experience Co-ordinator for RCHT, described the atmosphere as “truly positive and filled with valuable interactions.” She highlighted the involvement of educational institutions, helping young people map out their career paths.
More Than Just a Learning Experience
While the primary aim was to inspire future healthcare workers, the event also provided a valuable networking opportunity for those already in the field. New career ambassadors were recruited, and more healthcare professionals expressed interest in supporting work experience programmes.
Feedback from attendees and exhibitors was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the event as “amazing,” a “wonderful experience,” and a “brilliant success.”
Hopes for an Annual Event
Kate expressed her gratitude to all who contributed, including clinical matrons, professional leads, managers, and the staff at the Knowledge Spa for their support in making the event possible.
With such a strong response, there are now hopes that the Discovery Day could become a regular fixture, helping even more individuals explore a future in healthcare.
