Penzance hub opens for the veterans who go it alone

Published On: 1 July 2026Last Updated: 1 July 2026By

More than 30,000 people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly have served in the Armed Forces. Many of them do not know what support exists, and some do not even think of themselves as veterans at all.

A new Armed Forces Hub in Penzance wants to change that.

What the hub offers West Cornwall

The monthly hub gives veterans, serving personnel, reservists and their families across West Cornwall easier access to support, advice and community connections closer to home. It officially opens on Monday 6 July at the John Daniel Centre, running from 10:00 to 12:00.

It is managed by Veterans Regroup CIC and forms part of a growing countywide network of multi-agency Armed Forces Hubs. The idea is to bring military charities, NHS services, local authorities and voluntary organisations together in one welcoming place, so support is coordinated rather than scattered.

According to the 2021 Census figures cited by the organisers, thousands of local veterans remain unaware of the help available or delay reaching out until problems have become overwhelming.

Whether someone needs advice on housing, finances or wellbeing, wants to reconnect with the Armed Forces community, or just fancies a cup of tea and a chat with people who understand military life, the door is open.

The people behind it

Jane Jiwa, Founder and Managing Director at Veterans Regroup CIC, said the team was delighted to be bringing its latest hub to the town.

“Whether you’re looking for information or advice, need help navigating the system, or simply want a chat, a free cup of tea or coffee and some camaraderie, our Armed Forces Hubs are here for you,” Jane said.

John, an Army veteran from West Cornwall, knows what it feels like to try and manage without that support.

“When I left the Army, I thought I just had to get on with things on my own,” John said. “Having somewhere local where you can talk to people who understand military life, get trusted advice and meet others who’ve shared similar experiences makes a huge difference. This hub will help people realise they don’t have to face life’s challenges alone.”

Part of something bigger

The launch comes as veterans’ services across Cornwall expand. Veterans Regroup CIC is part of a consortium delivering the new VALOUR service for the county, led by Improving Lives Plymouth, working to build a coordinated countywide network for veterans and the wider Armed Forces community.

Local councillors, community organisations and representatives from military charities have been invited to the launch.
