Penzance Improvement Works on Coinagehall Street Set to Begin in January 2026

Published On: 13 December 2025Last Updated: 13 December 2025By

Improvement works on Coinagehall Street and surrounding roads in Penzance are due to begin on Monday 5th January 2026, with a series of changes aimed at altering how people move through the area.

The works will be carried out by Cormac as part of the Penzance Town Deal Sustainable Travel Network. The scheme focuses on walking and cycling routes, linking key locations including the South West Coast Path, Penzance railway station, the Promenade and Penzance Harbour.

What Work Is Planned?

Several changes are planned across Coinagehall Street and nearby roads.

A new zebra crossing will be installed on The Quay, connecting the harbour with nearby housing developments. This will include a raised table at Quay Street to improve pedestrian safety.

On Coinagehall Street, motor vehicles will be restricted from the eastern section, supporting access around the Treveth housing development.

A new one way traffic system will be introduced on Quay Street, Green Street and the western section of Coinagehall Street.

At Battery Road, the existing zebra crossing at the junction with Coinagehall Street will be upgraded to improve links between new developments and the seafront.

In Under Chapel Yard, footways will be widened and crossing points upgraded to improve pedestrian access.

Traffic Management and Possible Delays

Temporary traffic management will be in place while the work is carried out. This will vary depending on the location and phase of the works. Cormac says it will co ordinate with other nearby schemes where possible, including traffic management linked to the Ross Bridge refurbishment.

Pedestrian diversions may be required during footway works. In some locations, road users may be asked to wait briefly while areas are made safe to pass through. Some delays are possible, and people are advised to allow extra time for journeys.

Working Hours and Noise

Teams will be working between 8:00am and 4:00pm. Some operations may create short term noise, but steps will be taken to reduce disturbance for nearby residents.
