Penzance Reveals Plans for Acts of Remembrance 2025

Penzance Council has confirmed two public events as the Parish prepares to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Remembrance Sunday – 9th November

The annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service will take place on Sunday 9th November at the War Memorial at Battery Rocks. The service will be led by Rev Derath Durkin, with Rev Howard Peskett reading translated Cornish prayers.

Due to essential gas works by Wales & West Utilities at The Greenmarket, this year’s parade will begin from the top of Chapel Street at Queens Square, rather than the usual muster point at St John’s Hall.

Key timings on Remembrance Sunday:

  • 10:15am – The Civic Parade will form-up at the top of Chapel Street in Queens Square, outside the Co-op and Globe & Ale House.

  • 10:35am – The Parade will set off for the march to the War Memorial at Battery Rocks.

  • 10:55am – Remembrance Service and wreath laying.

Members of the public are welcome to watch the parade and attend the service.

Following the service, Penzance Royal British Legion will provide refreshments and a buffet at their clubhouse on Bread Street, open to everyone who wishes to attend.

  • Alverton Street

  • The Greenmarket

  • Market Place

  • Chapel Street

  • Under Chapel Yard

  • Battery Road (from the junction of Under Chapel Yard to the War Memorial)

Further details about the road closure can be found on the Penzance Council website.

Armistice Day – 11th November

A short service will be held on Tuesday 11th November at the Memorial Gardens in Penlee Park, led by Rev Derath Durkin and Rev Howard Peskett, followed by a two-minute silence at 11am.

Members of the public are invited to gather in the gardens from 10:45am to take part in the observance.
