Ross Bridge Reopens Days Early After Long Penzance Closure

Penzance drivers get their bridge back this week, with pedestrians already enjoying weekend access.

CORMAC has confirmed that Ross Bridge will reopen ahead of schedule, ending a lengthy closure that has tested the patience of locals.

Weekend access for walkers

Pedestrian access opened on Friday 15th May, giving residents the chance to cross on foot over the weekend. The bridge closes again on Monday for final inspections before fully reopening to vehicles on Tuesday 19th May.

Heritage repairs secured

In a statement shared by Penzance Council on Friday, CORMAC said the project team had been working hard to bring the reopening forward.

“We’re pleased to share that Ross Bridge is expected to reopen a few days earlier than scheduled. The project team have been working hard to achieve this, and pedestrian access will now open by the end of today, Friday 15th May for the weekend. It will close again on Monday for final inspections, then fully reopen, including vehicle access on Tuesday 19th May.”

The statement went on to thank the community for its patience.

“We know this has been a challenging journey for everyone, and we’re very grateful for the patience and support shown by the community while this work has been carried out. These vital repairs to Ross Bridge, secure its future for years to come, restoring it as an important part of Penzance’s heritage and infrastructure. Thank you to everyone for your understanding as we worked to bring this vital structure back into use.”
