A set of taps. A large vehicle tyre. A CD organiser. And that was before anyone counted the bags.

Twenty-three people turned out on Saturday 31 October for the latest litter pick run by Porthleven Environment Group, and between them they cleared a surprising amount of rubbish from around the village.

Twenty-nine bags in one session

By the end of the pick, the volunteers had filled 29 bags. The group said afterwards that it was really worth doing.

The bags were only part of the haul from around Porthleven.

Taps, a tyre and a CD organiser

Plenty of what turned up wouldn’t fit in a bin bag. Alongside the bagged litter, volunteers collected a set of taps, a large vehicle tyre, various large plastic items and a large CD organiser.

They also came across part of a sofa. The group said it will arrange for that to be picked up through a fly-tipping report.

Children shocked by the haul

Children took part in the pick too, and the group said they were fascinated and shocked by how much rubbish they helped collect.

The group described that reaction as an encouraging thought for the future.

Collected as promised

Once the pick was done, the whole pile was left ready for collection. Biffa have since picked it up, as promised, the group confirmed.

Thanking everyone who came along, the group said it hoped to see them all again next time.

The most unusual find

Every litter pick has one item that gets talked about afterwards. This time the group’s answer to the question of the most unusual find was short and to the point.

“PANTS! I will leave that to your imagination.”
