Police Carry Out Op Vigilant Deployment in Redruth

Police have confirmed that officers carried out an Op Vigilant deployment in Redruth over the weekend as part of efforts to tackle violence against women and girls.

What is Op Vigilant?

Op Vigilant focuses on identifying and disrupting predatory behaviour in busy night-time areas. The approach uses both plain clothed and uniformed officers positioned in locations such as outside pubs and clubs.

Officers monitor behaviour and step in where there are signs of harassment or potential sexual offences.

Proven Results From Previous Trials

The tactics used in Op Vigilant were first trialled by Thames Valley Police in Oxford in 2019.

According to police data, the trial led to a 30% reduction in sexual offending and a 50% reduction in rapes within the evening and night-time economy.

Part of Ongoing Safety Measures

Camborne, Pool and Redruth Police said the deployment forms part of a wider set of tactics aimed at making the area safer.

The operation is linked to their wider Violence Against Women and Girls plan, with further activity expected as officers continue their work across Camborne and Redruth.
