Saving Lives at Sea is back, following the RNLI when seconds count

The BBC series that follows lifeboat crews and lifeguards through their hardest shifts is back for another run. From next week, the cameras return to the volunteers who head out when the call comes in, and the outcome rests on how fast they move.

An eleventh series lands next week

Saving Lives at Sea returns to BBC Two for its eleventh series, a behind-the-scenes look at the work of RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards across the UK and Ireland. The award-winning programme has built its name on real rescue footage and the people caught up in it, both the crews and those they pull from the water. This new run is ten episodes long, and it starts on Tuesday 18 August at 8pm.

What to expect this time

There are dramatic rescues, and the quieter, more emotional moments that come with them. The series takes in paddleboard, kayak and surf incidents, animal rescues, and plenty more besides. Running through all of it is what the RNLI’s lifesavers do when every second counts, and the courage, commitment and professionalism that takes.

For anyone who spends their summers on Cornwall’s beaches and coast, it is a look at the side of the sea most people never see up close. It begins on Tuesday 18 August at 8pm on BBC Two, with nine more episodes to come after that.
