St Agnes Lifeboat Day, and the one thing not to do

Buckets, spades and, if you have a pair, binoculars. That is roughly the kit list for Trevaunance Cove tomorrow, where the volunteers at St Agnes RNLI Lifeboat are opening up for four hours of games, rescue demonstrations and a barbecue. There is one piece of advice they would like people to take in before they set off, and it is about the drive down.

What is on at Trevaunance Cove

Lifeboat Day runs from 12pm to 4pm. The station has promised fun, games, rescue demonstrations and a barbecue, with more besides.

Bring the buckets and spades, because there is a sandcastle competition. Brush up on your knots too. A knot-tying challenge called Knotty Nora is waiting for anyone who fancies their chances. And if you want the best view of what the lifeboat crew get up to out on the water, a pair of binoculars is worth packing.

Card machines are there, but bring cash anyway

Paying on the day should be simple enough. The station will have card machines running, so there is no need to hunt down a cashpoint first.

The tombola is the exception. That one wants coins and notes, and the station is promising a good haul of prizes for anyone who has a go. A few pounds in the pocket will not go to waste.

Whatever you do, do not drive to the cove

This is the part the crew would most like people to read before setting off. Anyone driving to St Agnes is asked not to drive down to the cove itself. Parking on the road there is strictly prohibited, and the warning from the station is blunt. You will probably get a ticket, and it will ruin your day.

The alternative is a Park and Ride running from St Agnes Sports Club. Signs will be up on the day to point the way in.

The station ended its own message with three words. “See you tomorrow!”
