Two new crew members earn their place at The Lizard RNLI

There is a point on any lifeboat station where a trainee stops being a trainee. For two people at The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station, that point arrived on Tuesday evening, at the end of a crew exercise, when both were signed off as fully fledged members of the team.

Both had been working towards their individual pass out programmes, and both came through on the same night.

A new face on the Shore Crew

Taylor Emms only joined the station recently, and has now passed out as a fully fledged member of the Shore Crew team. Shore Crew are the people who launch and recover the lifeboat and keep it ready to go, the part of the operation that rarely makes the photograph but without which the boat does not leave the house.

Taylor was congratulated by Jon-Paul Whaley, the station’s Senior Station Technician and a Lifeboat Trainer Assessor.

Tier One, and cleared for the crew

Freya Skingley reached a different milestone on the same evening. Following her assessment, she is now a Tier One member of the lifeboat crew.

She was congratulated by Darren Thirlaway, the duty Coxswain and, like Jon-Paul, a Lifeboat Trainer Assessor.

Two sign-offs in one evening, both from the station’s own trainer assessors, and two more trained pairs of hands at The Lizard, one on the shore and one on the water.
