Bailey the Cornwall dog who fits family life but has no home

Published On: 6 July 2026Last Updated: 6 July 2026By

For a few days, Bailey got to be somebody’s dog. Then he went back to the kennel.

Bailey is in the care of the RSPCA Cornwall branch, and he has spent far too long waiting for a home. He was recently given a short break from kennel life thanks to a set of foster carers who took him in for a respite stay.

What his foster carers saw

The respite stay gave the branch a chance to see who Bailey really is away from the kennel environment. His carers said he was an absolute joy to have around.

He filled their home with smiles. He made them laugh with his goofy personality, played with his toys, stretched out on the sofa, explored the garden and soaked up every cuddle going. Happy. Relaxed. Content. The branch says he showed them the dog they always knew he could be.

For a little while he didn’t have to listen to kennel doors opening and closing, or watch people walk past. He just got to be part of a family.

Back to waiting

Respite is only ever temporary. When it came time to say goodbye, Bailey left the home comforts behind and returned to his kennel. Back to waiting. Back to hoping.

The branch says it’s heartbreaking, because they now know how well he fits into family life. And still he watches other dogs leave while he waits for someone to choose him.

About Bailey

Bailey is clever, affectionate, funny and loyal, and he has worked hard with his training. The branch is asking people not to let him be overlooked any longer.

You can find out more about him and whether you could offer him a home on the RSPCA Cornwall dogs page.

If a forever home isn’t possible right now, the branch is asking people to share his story. The family he’s been waiting for, they say, might only be one share away.
