Saltash Studios to Screen Two Outdoor-Themed Films This Spring

Two Powerful Films Are Coming to Saltash

Saltash Studios is set to bring two contrasting and thought-provoking films to audiences this spring, with both screenings drawing inspiration from the Great British outdoors.

Taking place across late April and early May, the events offer a chance to experience independent cinema in a venue that has quickly become a creative space for the region.

A Journey Through Friendship and Landscape

On 24th and 25th April, Saltash Studios will screen The North (15), a new release focused on friendship and the impact of the natural world.

The film follows Chris and Lluis, who reunite a decade after living together as best friends. They embark on a 600-kilometre hike through the Scottish Highlands, following both the West Highland Way and The Cape Wrath Trail.

As they travel through the remote landscape of West Scotland, the pair are confronted with difficult truths about themselves and their relationship. The film explores how solitude and silence can shape personal reflection, asking what it really means to pause and listen.

Described as visually striking, The North takes viewers through mountains and remote scenery, where the emotional journey becomes as significant as the physical one.

A Story of Sea Swimming and Environmental Concern

On 1st May, audiences can attend a screening of Jo in the Water, followed by a live Q&A with director Pip Piper and the film’s subject, Jo Bateman.

The documentary centres on Jo Bateman, whose love of sea swimming is affected by sewage spills in the waters she values. What begins as a personal passion develops into a wider challenge, as Jo takes on one of the UK’s largest water companies.

The film highlights the wider issue of water pollution, exploring its impact on natural environments, wildlife, and communities. It also looks at how individual action can contribute to a growing movement focused on protecting access to clean water.

Screenings at a New Creative Space

Both films will be shown at Saltash Studios, which opened in 2025 and has established itself as a hub for creativity and independent film in south east Cornwall.
