Saltash Waterside security patrols to run until 10pm this summer

Anyone heading down to Saltash Waterside over the school holidays may notice a new face or two. Uniformed security officers are patrolling the area each afternoon and evening, part of a trial the town council has put in place for the summer.

Saltash Town Council has invested in the Waterside security trial in response to growing concerns about anti-social behaviour. Officers from City Security Plymouth will patrol the Waterside from the Jubilee Pontoon to the Sailing Club, between 2pm and 10pm throughout the summer holidays.

The council has framed the trial as part of its ongoing work to keep Saltash a welcoming and safe town for everyone. It follows concerns about anti-social behaviour in parts of the area, and the aim is a positive, visible presence during the busy summer period.

Card payments and a request for feedback

The officers’ focus is engagement with residents, visitors and businesses, offering assistance where needed and encouraging responsible use of the area. They are also trained to take day and overnight pontoon payments by card on behalf of the council.

Saltash Town Council is encouraging people to talk to the officers, who can answer questions and gather feedback about the pontoon service and the wider Waterside. Those views feed into how the council identifies opportunities for future improvements and initiatives. Residents can also contact Saltash Town Council directly to share their thoughts, with updates to follow on the council’s website and social media channels over the coming weeks.

The town’s mayor, Councillor Brian Stoyel, said the trial was a chance to back the people using the Waterside and to listen to the community.

“Saltash is a welcoming town, and we want residents and visitors alike to enjoy all it has to offer safely and responsibly. This trial gives us the opportunity to support those using the Waterside, listen to feedback from the community and see how a visible presence can help make a positive difference for everyone.”

Saltash Town Council is the largest town council in the south-east of Cornwall, with sixteen councillors representing the Essa, Tamar and Trematon wards. It says the data gathered over the summer will be shared once the trial has run its course.
