Security officers to patrol Saltash Waterside in summer trial
If you head down to the Waterside this summer, expect a new face or two along the water’s edge. Saltash Town Council is putting City Security Officers on patrol from Jubilee Pontoon down to the Sailing Club, and the first shift starts on Friday 31 July.

What the trial involves
The officers will be out every day through the summer school holidays, between 2pm and 10pm. Their focus is engagement rather than enforcement. Expect them to chat with residents, visitors and businesses, offer a hand where it is needed, and encourage people to use the area responsibly.
The council has framed the trial as part of its commitment to keeping the Waterside and the wider town welcoming, enjoyable and safe. It follows concerns about anti-social behaviour in parts of the area, and the aim is a positive, visible presence during the busiest stretch of the year.
Say hello
The council is keen for people to talk to the officers rather than walk past them. They will be happy to answer questions and gather feedback on both the pontoon service and the Waterside more generally, and the council says those views will help shape future improvements.
There is a practical touch too. The officers will be able to take day and overnight pontoon payments by card on behalf of the Town Council, so you will not need to hunt down another way to pay.
A trial, for now
This is a trial, and the council wants to know what people make of it. Updates will follow over the coming weeks on its Facebook page, so it is worth keeping an eye on its social media channels to see how things progress.
