Morval and Widegates fete raises £1,100 for East Cornwall rescuers

Three people, one oversized handwritten cheque, and a number big enough to matter: £1,100. That is what the Morval & Widegates Country Fete has just handed over to the volunteers who go looking when someone in East Cornwall goes missing.

A fete with a cause

The cheque was presented this past Saturday morning (5 September), and East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team says the donation will go directly towards volunteers, equipment and training, keeping the team ready to respond whenever it is needed.

The charity has thanked the fete’s organisers, everyone who attended, and everyone who took part in raising the funds. In a statement, the team said the contribution and the kindness behind it “genuinely makes a difference”, and that it is proud to be part of such a supportive community.

Who turns out when someone goes missing

East Cornwall SRT is a local charity providing an inland search and rescue service for lost, missing and injured people across East Cornwall, and further afield when required. It is entirely voluntary, and relies on public support to keep operating.

In an emergency, the team can be reached by asking Devon and Cornwall Police for Mountain Rescue.
