Sennen Cove RNLI Volunteers Pass Key Lifeboat Assessments

Volunteers at Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station have successfully completed a series of important assessments over the past three days as part of the RNLI’s Operational Competence Framework.

The framework ensures RNLI volunteers achieve the qualifications required to safely and efficiently operate lifeboats during lifesaving missions.

At Sennen Cove, this includes not only those who go to sea but also the volunteers who make up the shore crew.

Shore Crew Put Through Assessments

As a slipway launch station, Sennen Cove relies heavily on its shore crew to safely launch and recover lifeboats.

Over the last three days, volunteers underwent full assessment and pass out exercises under the watchful eye of Lifeboat Trainer Assessor Gary Stanbury.

The assessments focused on the safe launch and recovery of the station’s Tamar class all-weather lifeboat and D class inshore lifeboat.

During the process, the station’s current Head Launchers, Tooltrak drivers and winch operators were also re-evaluated in their existing roles.

Volunteers Qualify in Key Roles

Several RNLI volunteers successfully qualified in new operational roles following the assessments.

Grace Holt, Ashley Ellis, James Doyle, Chris Holmes, Catherine Churchman and Shaun Parris have all been passed out as ILB and ALB shore crew.

George Morris has also been passed out as ILB and ALB shore crew and qualified on the Tooltrak ILB launch vehicle.

Lee Oliver and Nick Cowx have qualified as Head Launchers for the ILB.

Malcolm Chope has been passed out as Head Launcher for both the ALB and ILB.

Supporting Lifesaving Work

The lifeboat station congratulated the volunteers who completed the assessments and thanked everyone involved for the hard work that has helped ensure the station remains compliant and ready to help save lives at sea.
