Big Crowd Expected in Penzance This Saturday – Will Caldy Spoil the Cornish Pirates’ Party?
Easter Family Fun and Championship Rugby at the Mennaye
A bumper Easter crowd is expected at the Mennaye Field in Penzance this Saturday, 19th April, as the Cornish Pirates prepare to take on Caldy in Round 17 of the RFU Championship. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.
Currently sitting fifth in the league table, the Pirates will be aiming to build on last weekend’s bonus point win away at Chinnor. While Caldy may be positioned near the bottom of the standings, the Wirral-based side – nicknamed the ‘Ravers’ – have a reputation for being unpredictable, and the home team won’t be taking anything for granted.
New Faces in the Line-Up
There are a few changes in the Pirates squad this week. In the backs, Harry Yates steps in to partner Chester Ribbons in the centre. Among the forwards, James French is named at tight-head prop, while Michael Etete will make his first league start, partnering Alfie Bell in the second row.
Also lining up for the Pirates is 23-year-old Jack Forsythe, a former Worcester ‘Warrior’, who joins the team on loan from Exeter Chiefs. Jack has been named in the back row alongside Matt Cannon and captain Alex Everett.
Looking ahead to the game, joint head coach Alan Paver said:
“Firstly, looking back to last Saturday it was important we got the win at Chinnor and with a bonus point. It came at the right time for us in our endeavour to ultimately try and finish in the top third of the Championship, and we must continue that aim again on Saturday.
“Like all sides in the Championship, Caldy certainly can’t be taken lightly. However, we should hold a level of confidence in ourselves and hope to secure another win, and especially so at home.
“We also look forward to a big Easter Saturday crowd getting behind the team at the Mennaye Field, to help make it an enjoyable day for one and all.”
