Carlyon Bay opens indoor golf that beats the Cornish weather

A corner of Carlyon Bay that guests used to pass without a second look has become one of the most weatherproof spots on the resort. Carlyon Bay Golf Club near St Austell has opened a new TrackMan Simulator Studio, turning a previously underused space into a room where you can play hundreds of the world’s best courses without ever checking the forecast.

It is billed as a completely new way to enjoy golf at Carlyon Bay, and it is aimed at more than the club’s regulars. Keen golfers wanting to sharpen their game, beginners trying the sport for the first time, and groups after a few hours with friends or family are all part of the pitch.

Play hundreds of courses whatever the weather

The studio runs on TrackMan technology, the same name used across professional golf. Players can take on hundreds of the world’s best courses from indoors, which means a wet or windy Cornish afternoon no longer decides whether you get to play.

Tour-level data on every shot

It is also built for anyone who wants to understand their game rather than just hit balls. The simulator serves up instant, tour-level data on every shot, including distance, ball spin, club speed and loft, with real-time feedback as you go. For a golfer trying to work out why a drive drifts right, or how far they really carry a seven iron, that is the sort of detail that usually costs a lesson.

Somewhere to sit back as well

The room has been designed as a social space too. There is live sport on screen, comfortable seating, and drinks and snacks that you order from your seat by scanning a QR code. Sessions are available for individuals and for groups of up to four players, and because it is all indoors it runs right through the year, whatever the Cornish weather has in store.

The latest addition at Carlyon Bay

The Golf Studio is the newest investment at Carlyon Bay Resort, which already pairs a championship golf course on the cliffs above St Austell Bay with a hotel and spa. Carlyon Bay is one of nine hotels the Brend Collection runs across Devon and Cornwall, a family hospitality business founded in 1955.

“Our aim is always to ensure there’s something for everyone to enjoy when they visit Carlyon Bay,” said Matthew Brend, a director at the resort. “The Golf Studio is another exciting addition to the resort, complementing our already extensive facilities and giving members and guests yet another reason to visit.
