Cornish Pirates keep a former skipper’s Penzance firm on board

Next time the Cornish Pirates jog back into position at The Mennaye Field, glance at the back of their shorts. It is the same name you saw there last season. And the season before that. And the one before that.

That name belongs to Trelawny Motors Penzance Citroen/Isuzu, and the man behind it once led the side out as captain.

A fourth season with the Pirates

The Cornish Pirates have announced that Trelawny Motors Penzance Citroen/Isuzu is staying on as an Official Partner for the 2026/27 season, the car dealership’s fourth with the club.

The deal keeps Trelawny as Official Match Day Programme Sponsor. The firm is also visible around the ground on match days with pitch side signage, and the Trelawny Isuzu logo sits across the back of the Pirates’ match shorts.

From skipper to sponsor

Martin Murrish is a former Pirates skipper, now sits on the committee at Penzance & Newlyn RFC, and is a Director of Trelawny Motors Penzance Citroen/Isuzu.

“We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Cornish Pirates for the 2026/27 season,” he said. “As a long-standing local business, we value the opportunity to support a club that plays such a vital role in the community and represents Penzance with pride.

“This sponsorship reflects our ongoing commitment to both the region and the development of sport at all levels. It is a privilege to contribute to the club’s journey, both as a former player and now through our commercial support.”

Ross Hancock, the Pirates’ Head of Commercial & Communications, said Martin and his firm back far more than the first team.

“Trelawny Motors and Martin are massive supporters of not just the Cornish Pirates, but rugby in Penzance and we’re delighted to have a local business on board, but also a brand recognised nationally and internationally,” he said.

“It’s always great to have people passionate about the town and the team, especially with Martin who has worn Pirates colours.”
