St Joseph’s girls’ rugby is growing, and Bude RFC saw why

Kit bags on the tarmac, mouthguards in, and a minibus parked up on the edge of the pitch.

That was the scene at Bude RFC on Wednesday, when Year 8 and 9 girls from St Joseph’s School joined pupils from schools across East Cornwall for a festival of girls’ rugby.

A day of skills and confidence

The festival was built around developing skills, building confidence and enjoying the game together.

According to the school, every girl representing St Joseph’s brought enthusiasm, a strong attitude and a real willingness to learn. And they showed what the sport is about off the ball too, through friendship, respect, encouragement and teamwork.

Girls’ rugby on the rise at St Joseph’s

Girls’ rugby continues to grow at the school, with more pupils picking up the opportunities the sport offers.

The team’s coach said: “Rugby is about so much more than what happens on the pitch. It’s about belonging, building confidence, making friendships and being part of a team.”

“As a coach, I couldn’t be prouder of the girls and the way they represented our school. Their enjoyment, commitment and passion for the game made it a truly special occasion.”

The coach is already looking ahead, hoping for more opportunities and continued growth for girls’ rugby at St Joseph’s and across Devon and Cornwall.
