Some race days are about the clock. This one was about the people crossing the line for the first time, and a women’s team that punched well above its weight against clubs many times its size.

Carn Runners came away from the Indian Queens Half Marathon with a full set of reasons to celebrate. There was a third-place team finish for the women, and three members who ran the 13.1-mile distance for the very first time.

The 2026 event, held on Sunday 2 August, was the 44th running of the Indian Queens Half Marathon and the tenth race in this year’s Cornwall Grand Prix series. The course pairs quiet country lanes with roughly five miles on the Goss Moor Trail, a varied challenge that carries runners through the Cornish countryside. As ever, the Carn colours were out in force, with members cheering one another on from the start line to the last finisher home.

Carn women claim third place

The standout result of the day was a third-place overall finish for the Carn Runners women’s team.

Set against the size of the club compared with many of the teams competing across the series, this was a considerable result. Team placings are built through the efforts of every scoring runner, and each position gained along the course can shift the final outcome. Third among clubs drawing from far larger memberships says plenty about how the Carn women ran on the day.

It also points to the team spirit that runs through the club, with members encouraging each other and pulling together even while chasing their own individual goals. Bringing home third was a real triumph for Carn, and everyone who contributed to it can feel proud.

First half marathon for Antony

A special mention goes to Antony M, who completed his first-ever half marathon.

Stepping up to 13.1 miles is a significant move in any runner’s journey. It asks for more than simply stretching out a normal training run. It takes patience, steady preparation and the confidence to keep going when the distance starts to feel unfamiliar. Antony met that head-on and crossed the line as a half-marathon runner for the first time. That first finish is a moment he will remember, and hopefully the start of many more outings over the distance.

Nick reaches a new milestone

Nick W also joined the half-marathon club at Indian Queens.

Every runner comes to their first half with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Training does the physical work, but nothing quite matches the experience of covering the full race distance among hundreds of other runners. Nick worked through all 13.1 miles and earned a brilliant new milestone. Completing a first half is worth celebrating, and all the more so on a course that mixes rural roads, trail and the undulations of the Cornish countryside.

Charmaine completes her first half

The third member marking a first half-marathon finish was Charmaine W.

Charmaine has shown fantastic progress, and finishing at Indian Queens was a fitting reward for the effort that went into reaching the start line. The closing miles of a first half can ask a great deal of both body and mind. Keeping on towards the finish takes determination, sensible pacing and a willingness to keep working when the legs begin to tire. Charmaine did exactly that, and became another proud member of Carn’s growing half-marathon club.

More than the finishing times

Results naturally focus on positions and times, but they never tell the whole story.

Behind every one of them are the weeks of training, the evenings when staying at home would have been easier, the long weekend runs and the encouragement passed between club members. For the experienced runners, Indian Queens was another chance to race, to add to the team competition and to test themselves over a demanding distance. For Antony, Nick and Charmaine, it marked the completion of something entirely new.

That mix of seasoned racers and first-time finishers is what Carn Runners is about. Everyone arrives with different goals. The pride they take in one another’s achievements is the same.

A brilliant day for the club

From the women’s team taking third to three new half-marathon finishers crossing the line, this was a day Carn Runners will remember.

Congratulations go to Antony, Nick and Charmaine on their first half marathons, and a big well done to the women’s team for that third-place finish, along with every Carn Runner who raced, supported and helped make another fine club day. What a set of results, and what a team.
