Freddie Issaka: From Truro School to Professional Football

Freddie Issaka, 19, was born in Truro and has been part of Argyle’s youth set-up since his pre-teen years. A pacy attacker, Freddie made history in August 2021 when he became the youngest ever player to represent the Pilgrims. He was aged just 15 years and 34 days when he featured in an EFL Trophy match against Newport County.

Educated at Truro School, Freddie has represented both England and Wales at international level. Shortly after completing his GCSEs, he made his league debut for Argyle at the age of 16 in November 2022.

Continuing his development at Home Park, he signed a professional contract on his 17th birthday, which was extended in the summer of 2024.

To date, Freddie has made 39 appearances for Argyle, with close to half of those coming last season in the SkyBet Championship. This term, he has featured twice for Tom Cleverley’s Greens. He has also spent time on loan at Bristol Rovers, making nine appearances for the Gas.

Caleb Roberts: Following a Similar Path

Caleb Roberts also makes the temporary move across the Tamar, having followed a similar journey through Argyle’s ranks.

Joining the youth system aged just six, Caleb progressed steadily and became a regular in the club’s under-18 side. While studying at Ivybridge College and shortly after his 16th birthday, he became Argyle’s second youngest senior appearance maker behind Freddie, making his debut in the EFL Trophy.

During Argyle’s League 1 promotion-winning campaign in 2022/23, Caleb was again a regular in the EFL Trophy. He made his first start for the club that season and scored his first senior goal. He also made his EFL debut, coming off the bench in a Boxing Day away win over Cheltenham Town.

Across the previous two Championship seasons, Caleb was on the fringes of the first-team squad and featured regularly in cup matches. He played in central midfield when the Pilgrims defeated Premier League side Brentford 1-0 12 months ago, before their campaign ended with a 3-1 defeat to eventual runners-up Manchester City.

This term, Caleb has made 12 first-team appearances for Argyle. He was an unused substitute in recent League 1 matches against Stockport County and Mansfield.

Both players now link up with Truro City as the Tinners look ahead to the remainder of the 2025/26 Enterprise National League season.
