Will Dean Signs New Truro City Contract Ahead of 2025-26 Season
Key man Will Dean signs new contract ahead of historic season for Truro City
Truro City have confirmed that midfielder Will Dean has signed a new contract with the club ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The 24-year-old was a vital part of the Tinners’ title-winning campaign last term, making 39 league appearances and even switching roles to finish the season as a central defender. He also chipped in with some crucial goals, including strikes in both wins over Worthing and match-winners away to St Albans City and Tonbridge Angels.
A familiar face returns again
Born in Hampshire, Will came through the youth system at League One side Exeter City. He first joined Truro on loan during the 2019-20 season, which was eventually declared null and void due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a short spell back at Exeter, he made a permanent move to Truro in summer 2021.
Since then, Will has been part of the side’s journey through two promotions, helping guide the club to an historic position as the first Cornish side to reach Step 1 of the football pyramid.
‘I play my best football here’
Speaking to trurocity.co.uk, Will said:
“I have been here for four seasons since leaving Exeter so it was quite an easy decision (to sign a new contract). I love my football here and I play my best football here.”
Reflecting on last season’s title-winning campaign, Will praised the team’s unity and effort.
“You couldn’t write it because at the start of the season everyone had us down and out. But somehow, we produced magical things on the pitch because we are a tight group that works hard for each other,” he said.
“At the end of the day, that’s what has given us success and we pride ourselves on hard work. We run hard, compete and do the basics of football quite well. If you have those fundamentals, along with quality throughout the ranks, it is a good match.”
A full-time future
Truro’s promotion means the club is moving into a full-time football setup for the first time. Will believes the time is right for him to make the jump.
“I’m ready after four years of part-time football and working a job as well,” he added. “It is the right time to step back into full-time football and give it proper go.”
