Women and girls in St Agnes invited off the football sidelines

Every club has them. The mums holding the coats, the older sisters running the warm-ups, the woman who knows every player’s name and still says she’s “just watching”. This Wednesday evening, there’s an open invitation to step a little further onto the pitch.

What’s happening in St Agnes

Cornwall FA is bringing its Stepping Over the Sidelines evening to Enys Park, home of St Agnes AFC, on Wednesday 14 October from 6pm to 8.30pm.

It’s aimed at women and girls who want to find out how they could get involved in the game, whatever their experience or background. The evening mixes interactive classroom activities with practical sessions out on the pitch.

Who it’s for

The organisers are casting the net wide. A mum watching from the sidelines, a young leader, a player who wants to do more, or someone who has always fancied trying coaching or volunteering are all welcome.

And nobody needs a badge or a qualification to come along. You don’t have to be a qualified coach or have any previous experience, just an interest in finding out more.

What you’ll find out

The session is built around the different ways into local grassroots football:

• How you could support your local club
• Coaching and assistant roles
• Volunteering opportunities
• Courses and the next steps into football

How to sign up

Places can be booked through the Stepping Over the Sidelines sign-up page.

Cornwall FA is also asking people to tag or share the event with any woman or girl they think might be interested, or simply to come along together. The aim, in its own words, is to get more women and girls involved in football across the community.
